Shipment of JoWo #6 feeds/housings to beta testers
Current status:
- I’ve finished the design and pre-production of feeds and housings for JoWo #6 and will ship these off to my beta testers next week. If feedback is universally positive, then I will begin sales of these shortly thereafter. These will be available in both black and red Nikko ebonite as well as clear acrylic.
- Pelikan M2xx/M4xx/M6xx/M7xx feeds and collars will go on sale at the same time as the JoWo #6 feeds and housings. These will be available in both black and red Nikko ebonite as well as clear acrylic.
- Design of my own flexible nibs proceeds, though more slowly than I’d hoped. I want to have a prototype nib for Pelikan M400 pens by the time of the Dallas Pen Show in September, but there is some risk in this schedule. JoWo #6 flexible nib will follow Pelikan, then I’ll accept custom designs. I won’t have a table at the Dallas Pen Show this year.
- I have a pretty sizable backlog of custom feed requests to service. I’ll begin these designs once the JoWo #6 and Pelikan M2xx/4xx/6xx/7xx feeds/collars/housings are in production and on my website for sale.
- I am still working on the Zebra G dip pen nib in a JoWo #6 housing. I’m still not happy with the performance across inks, so I’m not yet able to offer these for purchase. I don’t have a firm date for completion of this product.

Zebra G dip pen nib in a JoWo #6 housing
This is the first prototype of a Zebra G dip pen nib in a JoWo #6 housing. I’ll test it thoroughly over the next week or two then send out a few to beta testers.
JoWo #6 Feeds and Housings Ready for Production
Now I really have to figure out how to build a storefront…
First JoWo #6 feed prototypes
These JoWo #6 feed prototypes in clear acrylic are dimensionally correct but still need some surface finish work. Working now on housings for these feeds.
Feed prototypes
I’ve been very busy of late debugging g-code to make feeds. Here are a few samples, among them JoWo #6, Pelikan M200, Pelikan 400 and a few oddballs just to test the g-code generation. Materials are black Nikko ebonite and clear cast acrylic.
First parts on the Mazak QTU-200MSY
My new Mazak QTU-200MSY is now nearly fully tooled and ready to make parts. The ATS bar feeder installation is now functional, though I’m waiting for a correctly fitting spindle liner. In this photo, I’m using the tool eye to touch off (find tool offsets) for a Becker CCMT polycrystalline diamond insert.
Here’s the very first part (other than test cuts during installation) that I’ve made, a JoWo #6 nib housing. This part was turned from a Mazatrol program, below.
G-code for a JoWo #6 housing
Though my Mazak QTU-200MSY turning center won’t be here until mid-February, I’ve been working hard on writing a C program on my MacBook Pro to generate g-code for turning collars, feeds and housings. This is the program NC Plot that I use for debugging the g-code before I put it on the machine to make parts.
Four JoWo #6 Feeds and Housings
These four JoWo #6 feeds and housings are probably the final parts I’ll make on my little Roland 4-axis mill. I’m transferring all my effort going forward to making these parts on the Mazak QTU-200MSY. Once that transfer is done, I’ll be able to offer parts in volume to pen makers worldwide.
JoWo #6 feeds and housings in ebonite
Some of the final feeds and housings I’ll make on my Roland 4-axis mill. These will be made much more quickly and economically on the Mazak QTU-200MSY that will arrive early in 2017. These are for JoWo #6 nibs, widely used in cartridge converter fountain pens.
